Someone Please Say No To On-Line Voting

London City Councillors seem to like the idea of allowing people to vote in the municipal election online.  This is not a good thing.

We're Not Just Nice and Polite Anymore

Go almost anywhere in the world as a Canadian and you are welcomed with open arms.  We, as a nation have been well known for politeness.  Now, thanks to Vancouver, we will be known for much more.

This Time Tiger Isn't Going To Get What He Wants

Tiger Woods seems to have been getting whatever and whomever he has wanted for awhile now.

But all of that is hopefully over.  Despite what certain people might think, no one is big enough to have their cake and eat it too.

If Tiger Woods wants to put everything that has happened behind him and truly move forward, then he must answer the questions that reporters and fans have for him.

Until he does that, this whole scandalous mess is going to stay with him.  It will be brought up over and over.

Is that fair ?  Absolutely not.

Tiger Woods feels that this is a private matter between himself and his family and a few other choice individuals.  It really should be just that, but it isn't.

Thank you, Jack Layton

As the leader of the federal NDP, Jack Layton has to live a public life.  He has to spend any given day in a fishbowl.  What he doesn't have to do is make private, personal and secret issues, completely open for the rest of the country to know about.

Layton's diagnosis of prostate cancer could have easily stayed between he and his doctor.  He could have drawn on the support of family and friends, and it would not have had to become anything more than that.

Instead, it became a major announcement.  And Mr. Layton needs to be both saluted and congratulated.

Prostate cancer does not have the exposure that it needs.

More than 26-thousand men were diagnosed with prostate cancer last year and just about every single one of them did what they could to keep it low-key.

That's the guy way.  You don't want to tell someone about your problems because you don't want your problems to become their problems.  It's easier just to face it yourself.

But that is a mindset that must change.

Prostate cancer and men in general need to take a look at what women have accomplished in the fight against breast cancer.  It is front and centre and if you take a look at donations and contributions from all sources, it is one of the leaders in money for research and treatment.

Jack Layton didn't have to put himself into the spotlight, but in doing so he has given prostate cancer another avenue to convey its statistics and information with the hope that it, like all other forms of cancer, can one day be cured.

The Hard Hits of Junior Hockey

The biggest question going around in the hockey world right now is not, "who is going to win the Stanley cup ?", or "who is going to win Olympic gold ?", or "will the Knights finish first in the Midwest division ?"

It's "why ?"

Why do we have all of these horrible hits in junior hockey this year ?

Michael Liambas on Ben Fanelli.  That was a hit that fractured the 16 year old's skull and gave Liambas the boot from the OHL.

Zach Kassian on Matt Kennedy.  It was a hit that may end up finishing Kennedy's career.  He has now suffered five concussions and may not want to risk coming back.

Memo to Ski Jumpers: Go Take A Flying Leap

The 13 women who have now decided to take the loss of women's ski jumping at the Olympics to the Supreme Court of Canada, are missing the point.

On Being Naive Of Those With Whom We Share This Planet

It's nice to sit back sometimes and believe that our world is becoming a little more open-minded.  To believe that enough has happened in history to make an example of what is right and what is wrong; what is acceptable and what is unacceptable.  But that's just naive, isn't it ?

A Bedtime Story

Here is a story for everyone to read.  Take from it what you will.

The Calgary Flames Aren't The Only Ones

If you have heard the story about the Calgary Flames' players and families jumping the H1N1 queue in Alberta to receive their shots and you are upset about it.  Stop being upset about it.  They aren't the only ones.

Is It All Gone Yet ?

Is it safe to open my eyes ?  Has the last of the pumpkin pie finally been eaten ?
