Tenor saxophonist Bob Cooper teams up with a group of hard-swinging mainstreamers (trumpeter Snooky Young, pianist Ross Tompkins, guitarist Doug Macdonald, bassist Monty Budwig and Jeff Hamilton) on this LP to play a program filled with veteran standards and a few newer pieces. The emphasis is on no-nonsense swinging, particularly during such numbers as "In a Mellotone" and "Jumpin' at the Woodside." The underrated vocalist Ernie Andrews is featured on four numbers (a blues, "Satin Doll" and two ballads) that add some variety to the upbeat proceedings. Read More
