1290 CJBK Personalities

Steve Garrison

London in the Morning - Weekday Mornings between 6 and 9am

Growing up in East London, Steve attended Boyle Memorial Public and Sir Adam Beck Secondary Schools, and is proud to call himself an “East End” boy.

Steve’s lifelong dream was to be a radio broadcaster.  As a student in Fanshawe College’s Radio Broadcast program in its very first year, Steve quickly earned his stripes.  Among his notable achievements (besides being in charge of pub crawls) was his leadership in applying to the CRTC to put 6X FM, Fanshawe’s in-house signal, on the air as a training ground for student broadcasters.

As a result, Steve was named Broadcaster of the Year in the first year of the Fanshawe program (1975); and, thirty years later, in 2005, Fanshawe honoured his lifelong commitment to the broadcast industry with his induction into their Communication Arts Media Wall of Fame.

Steve’s knowledge of his craft comes from not just a lifelong passion for broadcasting, but a long tenure with 1290 CJBK that has included roles in programming, sales, promotions and on-air.  For the last two decades, Steve has been the morning voice of 1290 CJBK, and a source of highly-local news and information for London and region.

Steve’s love of his community developed as a result of his family’s deep London roots.  His parents Jerry and Fanny Goose, well-known downtown merchants who operated J. Goose Family Clothing for 45 years, taught Steve the value of community service and involvement.

Steve, along with wife Michelle (who he affectionately calls “She Who Must Be Obeyed), and their two cats Max and Ginger, are active in the community and are proud to call London home.

Regarding the fiscal environment in Ontario

Welcome to an economy without tobacco revenues!

Why is anyone surprised we're in such dire straights financially when only the politically correct revenue sources are available for taxation? Hah!
The propaganda about the health costs defy logic. Smokers' contribution to provincial, and federal, coffers has always outweighed the costs of their healthcare by a landslide.
Health care costs have skyrocketed even as smokers quit or die off. Why? Because smokers always contributed far and away more than they absorb.
Some of the true costs of our healthcare system lie with the over staffed managerial level of the industry, as well as overinflated costs of education in Ontario.
Combine this with the wasteful and often undeserved "golden parachutes" constantly being handed out... haha
The answers are all around us, from obesity (the true health care cost epidemic), to forever expanding budgets, and the influences of Unions and politicians.
Take the violence (aka contact) out of all sports, force the population to listen to only Kim Mitchel and Bryan Adams, take away all the schoolyard equipment, and coat the city in Nerf foam.. It still won't balance the books.

Thank you very much for the great job you do every day being the only voice of (not so common) sense and intelligence on London radio today. Keep up the great job!
