Record Day For Brian Marshall Leads Western To Win
In the Marshall family, it can be tough to make your own headlines. There’s an awful lot of competition. Greg, Donnie and Blake have carved out enough football stories to stretch from goal line to goal line and back again. On Saturday against Laurier, Brian Marshall found a way to make his name known. Brian caught a Mustang record, four touchdown passes as Western demolished Laurier 56-3.
With Brian’s brother and starting Mustang quarterback Donnie Marshall injured, Will Finch played his first full game in a Western uniform and ended the day with 339 yards passing and those four TD strikes. Brian Marshall now sits in a groupe with Andy Fantuz, Nigel Wilson and Nick Pasic as the only Western receivers with four touchdown catches in a single game.
Mustang running back Garrett Sanvido went over 100 yards, battling through a difficult Golden Hawks’ run defense to gain 117 yards on the ground. He is now one yard shy of 1000 on the year with one game to go.
Western travels to Ottawa to finish the regular season against the Gee Gees on Saturday. A win will secure fourth place for the Mustangs and a home playoff date in the first round.
Broadcast time on NewsTalk 1290 will be 12:55 WITH Tom McConnell and Larry Haylor.
