McKegg Reportedly Makes Marlies
According to a tweet from Damian Cox (@DamoSpin), former London Knight Greg McKegg will “crack the opening day lineup” for the Toronto Marlies.
The St. Thomas native has impressed at training camp after finishing the 2011-12 season fighting through a shoulder injury that limited him offensively in the OHL playoffs and at the Mastercard Memorial Cup.
Marlies Head Coach Dallas Eakins told the Toronto Sun, “I just feel like he is a step ahead… He is reading the plays, able to make clean plays, he is ahead of the group physically, and he has had a little bit of a knack around the net. Just those little things, his ability to hang on to the puck, his reads on when to take it to the net, his ability to hang in there physically with some of these big guys.”
Toronto will open the regular season at home to Rochester on Saturday.
