Guelph Gets Back At Knights
After an 8-2 stomping at the hands of the London Knights last weekend, the Guelph Storm turned the tables beating the Knights 4-1 in London on Sunday. The Knights found themselves staring at a 2-1 deficit late in the third period for the second game in a row and just like their loss against Kitchener on Friday, could not find a way to score the tying goal, dropping their second straight.
Guelph Head Coach had challenged some of his veterans to simply be better before the game and they were. Scott Kosmachuk scored twice, Zach Mitchell made plays and Tanner Richard sealed the scoring with an empty-netter. All are veterans. Zach Leslie scored what would be the game winner for Guelph at 10:21 of the second.
Brett Welychka picked up his third goal of the year for London on the power play in the first period. Garrett Sparks of the Storm stopped all 44 of the other shots he faced. Kevin Bailie made 30 saves in net for the Knights.
Cody McNaughton of the Storm was injured after falling in the corner of the London Knights' zone with 2:28 to go in the 2nd period. He was taken off the ice on a stretcher after a long delay that actually saw the teams sent to their dresing rooms early. He was conscious and speaking with medical personnel and was taken to hospital for evaluation.
London will host the Windsor Spitfires at Budweiser Gardens on Friday night.
