The London Knights Celebrate Opening Night With Large Victory
Anyone starved for hockey highlights needed to have a ticket to opening night for the London Knights at Budweiser Gardens. From feather-light passes to pinpoint shooting and a crunching hit or ten, the Knights put on a show that did everything to demonstrate that they are ready to try to defend their 2012 OHL Championship.
After a touching banner raising ceremony, the Knights showed off their skill in an 8-2 win over the visiting Erie Otters. Seth Griffith scored three times, including a goal with 0.2 seconds left in the second to complete the hat trick. Adam Restoule scored twice in his Knights' debut, on nice feeds from Kyle Platzer and then Chris Tierney. Alex Broadhurst also scored in his London debut. Max Domi and Brett Welychka scored the other Knights' goals. Domi made three or even four plays on his way to lifting a pass to Welychka in front.
Kevin Bailie made 26 saves in net for his first win in his new uniform. The Knights outshot Erie 54-28.
London travels to Guelph on Sunday. Broadcast time on NewsTalk 1290 is 1:30.
