Maata Officially Becomes A Penguin
Olli Maata left Finland bound and determined to make professional hockey happen for himself. The Knights' second-year defenseman is a step closer after signing his first NHL contract on Wednesday. Maata signed a three-year entry-level deal with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Maata was selected 22nd overall by the Penguins in June's NHL Entry Draft. Maata was the first overall selection by the Knights in the 2011 CHL Import Draft.
He is set to open the season with his London teammates on Friday, September 21st at home to the Erie Otters.
