Derek Schiavone has a new home in the CFL. After spending his pro career in Edmonton, he has been shipped to the Montreal Alouettes in a deal for kicker Brody McKnight. Edmonton ran into a punting issue when punter Burke Dales went down with an injury. Schiavone is seend as a better field goal kicker than punter, so the Eskimos decided to look outside their organization for someone who could do both.
Edmonton also gives up a first round and a fourth round pick in the deal.
Schiavone is from Fort Erie and handled all punting and kicking duties while at Western. He won a Yates Cup while in University and led the CIS in scoring with 97 points in 2005.
