Big Night From Griffith Powers Knights Past Plymouth
Bo Horvat's power play goal with 3:04 remaining in the third period helped the London Knights to a 6-4 win over the Plymouth Whalers at the John Labatt Centre Friday night. It stood up as the game winner in what was a chippy matchup that featured four fights.
Seth Griffith set up Horvat's third of the pre-season and ended the night with 5 points. Griffith had a chance to make it six, but was stopped on a late penalty shot after being hooked to the ice.
The Knights jumped out to a 2-0 lead on first period goals by Griffith and Ryan Rupert. Both goals came short-handed. Olli Maata put London ahead 3-0 in the second, before the Whalers began their climb back into the game. Garrett Meurs and Gianluca Curcuruto each scored to cut London's lead to one, but Seth Griffith's second of the game restored the Knights' two-goal lead.
In the third period, Curcuruto's second goal again cut the Knights' lead to one and then Rickard Rakell of the Whalers tied the game at 13:08. After Horvat's goal, Ryan Rupert scored his second of the night into an empty net to put things away for London.
The Knights outshot Plymouth 43-32.
The teams meet again Saturday at the Timken Centre in St. Thomas at 7 PM as the Knights close out their pre-season schedule. Through four games London is 2-2.
