Nationals Edged In Opener
A big second period by the Strathroy Rockets doused some big offensive nights from the London Nationals on Wednesday. The Rockets scored four times in the middle frame and edged London 6-5 at the Western Fair Sports Centre as the Nats opened defense of their GOJHL Western Conference Championship.
London built a 3-1 first period lead as Noah Schwartz set up Aaron Dartch for two and then Matt Wildman for his first as a National.
The Rockets' four-goal burst in the second erased that lead and had Strathroy ahead 5-3 after two.
In the third, two goals from Blake Thomas in the fist 3:30 tied the game, before Stuart King scored the winner for Strathroy at the 6:30 mark.
Taylor Edwards stopped 27 of 33 shots for London. Schwartz ended the game with four assists. Thomas put up two goals and an assist in his first game with London and Wildman also had a three-point night, adding two assists.
The Nationals will visit St. Mary's on Sunday.
In the other GOJHL game, the St. Thomas Stars dumped LaSalle 8-5.
