Mustang Football Opens With Big Win
Going into Waterloo for Week 1 of the OUA season, the Western Mustangs were great big favourites. Over sixty minutes of football, Western showed why. Donnie Marshall passed for 281 yards and two touchdowns and Garret and Justin Sanvido combined for five TDs in total as Western crunched the Warriors 54-10.
Top recruit Will Finch made his Mustang debut, throwing an interception that was returned for Waterloo's only major of the game, but he is expected to settle in just fine in time.
The early part of the game was full of passes and punts, but Western appeared to find their groove when they began to run the ball. Garret Sanvido showed himself well taking over what was a loaded backfield last year with the likes of Tyler Varga and Nathan Riva. He ran for 144 yards on 14 carries.
Justin Sanvido demonstrated enormous athleticism at receiver all day and ended up with 9 catches for 161 yards.
Donnie Marshall showed great decision making in completing 18 of 25 passes. He only ran the ball twice for 18 yards.
The Mustangs will host U of T on Saturday.
