Harrington Helps Canada Edge Russia

London Knights' defenseman Scott Harrington scored one of three goals for Team Canada in a 3-2 win over Russia to open the 2012 Canada-Russia Challenge.  Sean Monahan of the Ottawa 67's and Dougie Hamilton of the Niagara Ice Dogs had the others for the Canadian side in the first of a four-game series to commemorate the 1972 Summit Series.  All of Canada's goals came in the second period with Hamilton's winner on the power play.  Anton Slepyshev and Nail Yakupov scored for Russia.

In 1972, they opened at Maple Leaf Gardens.  On Thursday, it was Yaroslavl, Russia.

Game 2 of the series will be played Friday in Russia, before the series shifts back to Canada for games three and four in Halifax next Monday and Tuesday.
