FC London Wins PDL Championship
Throughout the playoffs, FC London tended to have drama as a co-pilot. Why should things be any different in the PDL Championship game?
On Saturday FC London defeated the Carolina Dynamo 2-1 in North Carolina to claim the PDL crown for 2012 and bring another title to London in what has become a year of Championships by sports teams in the city.
Carolina opened the scoring in the 26th minute on what was very close to being an off-side play. But as they had done in the semis, FC London fought back. They equalized six minutes later on a goal by forward Carl Haworth.
The game remained tied and thoughts began to creep toward extra time, when Jordan Ayris found the back of the net in the 76th minute after stepping around the keeper to free up a shot.
London was then able to hang on through a very long five minutes of injury time that saw Reece Richardson make a big save and FC fans hold their breath until the final whistle. It came and the celebration began.
FC London joins the London Knights and the London Lightning as champions this year in their respective sports.
