A productive meeting today at London City Hall as municipal leaders from all over southwestern Ontario came to talk to the president of Via Rail.

The mayors that were there from various areas including London, Sarnia and Windsor said they felt it would be valuable for Via Rail to consult with them and define what the company requires in ridership and revenue.

They also asked that they return service to these areas that saw their trains cut, to what it was before the changes were made on July 31st, and suggested that increasing train travel would help take the stress off the congested highways.

Both sides agreed today to form a working group, made up of municipal delegates and VIA Rail representatives to find ways of improving regional transportation.

Another meeting has been scheduled before the end of September.
