Health Unit Declares Second Probable Human Case of West Nile Virus

8/30/2012

The Middlesex London Health Unit has announced there is another probable human case of West Nile Virus -- the second local case of the summer.

This as Public Health Ontario says the West Nile count is at 82 in the worst outbreak the province has seen in a decade.

Iqbal Kalsi, Manager of Environmental Health at the Middlesex-London Health Unit says it is becoming increasingly important for people to cover up and use an insect repellant that contains DEET as they spend more time outside.

In addition to the two probable human cases, there have been 20 dead birds and a dozen mosquito traps from various locations across the region that have tested positive for the virus this summer.
