A transport truck crashed into an unattended OPP cruiser this morning on Highway 402, causing extensive damage.
Shortly after 9 a.m. an OPP crusier was off to the right lane of eastbound Highway 402 at the Highway 40 overpass with its lights flashing to divert traffic after an earlier collision.
A transport then slammed into the cruiser, demolishing it. It spun out coming to rest against the south wall of the overpass.
The transport lost control, mounting the south wall of the overpass and careened down the adjacent embankment.
The officer who had occupied that cruiser was standing with another officer far from the crash scene and was not injured. The driver of the transport truck was also not injured.
Highway 402 eastbound and Highway 40 northbound will remain closed for an investigation.
Police say charges are pending.
